Big Dan's Car Wash has opened a new express location in Middleburg, Florida, extending a fast growth run that is carrying the chain beyond its Central Florida base. According to reporting from Auto Laundry News, the Middleburg site is one of several openings clustered into a short window, with the company opening three locations in the past three months and planning three more in the next three.
The grand opening came with familiar promotional levers. Big Dan's offered free washes for the first 17 days at the new site, along with a signature unlimited plan priced at $5 per month for the first three months. Both moves are aimed at building membership quickly during the critical early period of a new location.
Pushing north and northeast
Company leaders framed Middleburg as a geographic turning point. Much of Big Dan's recent growth has been concentrated in Central Florida, and the new site marks a deliberate move farther north and northeast into North Central Florida.
President Jay Shadday said Middleburg gives the company a chance to serve a new community while building presence across the region, and pointed to upcoming openings in Lake City and Bushnell later this fall. Chris Walton, SVP, emphasized the company's membership model, saying Big Dan's is built around a customer-centric approach that delivers value on every member visit.
The company also tied the opening to local giving. Big Dan's said it will donate the first $5,000 in proceeds from the Middleburg location to Impact Clay, a local nonprofit. Chief Operating Officer Tripp Flournoy said opening a wash is about "more than putting up a sign," describing the goal as becoming part of the community.
Why it matters for operators
Big Dan's playbook offers a clear template for operators planning multi-site growth. The combination of an extended free-wash period and a deeply discounted introductory membership is designed to convert first-time visitors into recurring subscribers before the promotional pricing expires. Operators watching this approach should track how many introductory members retain once the $5 rate steps up to full price, since that conversion rate determines whether aggressive launch discounts pay off.
The clustered opening cadence, three sites in three months with three more planned, also signals a real estate and staffing strategy that concentrates resources in a defined region rather than scattering locations. Building density in North Central Florida can lower marketing costs, ease equipment and labor logistics, and strengthen brand recognition as members move between towns.
The local donation component is worth noting as well. Tying a fixed dollar amount from opening proceeds to a community organization is a low-cost way to generate goodwill and local press at launch. For independent operators competing against expanding chains, matching that community-first messaging can help defend market share in towns where a regional brand is arriving for the first time.
As Big Dan's extends its footprint, nearby operators should expect competitive pressure on membership pricing and be ready to reinforce their own retention and loyalty programs before a new express site opens down the road.
