Fast5Xpress, a Southern California express car wash operator owned by Clark Investment Group, has been sold to automotive care brand Chemical Guys. The deal marks an unusual pairing of a regional wash platform with a company best known for detailing products sold through retail and e-commerce channels.

The transaction was announced by Amplify Capital Group, a mergers and acquisitions advisory firm focused on the car wash sector, which served as exclusive financial advisor to Fast5Xpress, according to reporting from Car Wash Business Center. The advisory firm said it worked with the ownership group on strategic positioning, buyer outreach, negotiations, and closing.

The companies involved

Fast5Xpress built its business in the Southern California express wash market, a region the buyers and advisors describe as one of the country's most desirable. Under Clark Investment Group and the company's corporate team, the operator developed a reputation for operational discipline and customer service.

Chemical Guys is a market leader in premium detailing products and car care solutions, serving enthusiasts and professionals worldwide through e-commerce, retail, and professional channels. The acquisition gives the appearance brand a physical express wash footprint in a major market, connecting a product company with operating locations.

Curt Ensign, co-founder and chief operating officer of Fast5Xpress, said selling a business built over years was both exciting and emotional, and credited the advisory team's industry knowledge. Jeff Pavone, founding partner of Amplify Capital Group, said the company had built an exceptional business with an unwavering commitment to customer experience.

A maturing acquisition market

Pavone framed the sale as evidence of continued consolidation and maturation in the express segment. He said strategic buyers are placing a growing premium on scaled platforms, operational quality, and differentiated customer experiences, and that Fast5Xpress fit each of those criteria.

The deal continues an active run for the advisory firm, which has publicized several recent car wash transactions, including advising a Baltimore-area operator on its sale to a national chain and reporting roughly $450 million in transaction volume during a single quarter earlier in the year. Financial terms of the Fast5Xpress sale were not disclosed.

Why it matters for operators

The entry of a detailing products brand into express wash ownership is worth watching for independents. It signals that buyers of car wash platforms are no longer limited to the familiar mix of private equity funds and regional chains. Brands with adjacent revenue in car care may see wash sites as a way to build direct customer relationships, cross-sell products, and control the physical experience around their name.

For operators weighing an eventual exit, the deal reinforces a recurring theme in recent transactions: buyers pay a premium for scaled, well-run platforms in attractive markets with clean operations and a strong customer experience. Documented processes, disciplined growth, and a defensible market position remain the levers that raise valuations.

It also underscores how geography drives interest. Dense, high-income Southern California is a target market, and operators in similarly desirable regions may find themselves fielding inquiries from a widening pool of strategic buyers. Independents in those areas should understand what makes their location and operations attractive before a buyer comes calling.
