Cobblestone Auto Spa dedicated September, Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, to raising money for pediatric cancer research across its locations in Arizona and Idaho. The operator supported Phoenix Children's in Arizona and St. Luke's Children's Hospital in Idaho, according to reporting from Professional Carwashing & Detailing.

The two states used different fundraising mechanics, giving the chain a look at how a cause campaign can be adapted to local operations and customer bases.

Two states, two approaches

At Cobblestone's Arizona sites, the company collected open donations at each location throughout the month, continuing an annual program the operator says it has run for more than a decade. Tyler Triska, director of operations for Cobblestone Arizona, tied the effort to the hospital's research mission and noted the company's track record of more than 10 years supporting Phoenix Children's. Susan O'Donnell of Phoenix Children's said the hospital hopes to "break new ground in our research toward eliminating pediatric cancer."

In Idaho, the chain took a per-wash approach. Cobblestone donated $1 from every GrapheneX Express Exterior wash sold at any Idaho location during September to St. Luke's Children's Hospital and its childhood cancer research. Dominick Fery, director of operations for Cobblestone Idaho, framed children's health as a priority for giving back and said he hopes the effort inspires other businesses to participate.

The source notes that roughly 15,000 children and adolescents are diagnosed with cancer in the United States each year. Both campaigns aim to improve treatment options, support new therapies, strengthen survivorship care and reduce disparities in outcomes.

Summer water drive preceded the campaigns

The cancer fundraising followed Cobblestone's annual water bottle drive for Phoenix Rescue Mission's Code Red campaign, which provides clean drinking water to people experiencing homelessness during Arizona's extreme summer heat. Five full-service Cobblestone locations served as collection points, and the chain donated $1 from every Platinum Express Wash sold at participating Phoenix locations on Aug. 8. With average August temperatures in Arizona well above 100 degrees, the drive targets heat-related illness among unhoused residents.

Why it matters for operators

Cobblestone's September effort is a practical template for operators weighing how to structure a charitable campaign. The chain ran two different models at once: open donation collection in Arizona and a fixed per-wash contribution in Idaho. The per-wash model ties giving directly to a specific wash package, which makes the customer contribution concrete and can nudge purchases toward that tier. The open-donation model carries lower operational complexity and works well for full-service sites with staff present at the point of sale.

The decade-plus continuity of the Arizona program is worth noting. Repeat annual campaigns build recognition with both customers and the receiving charity, and a consistent local partner, in this case a children's hospital, gives the effort a clear community anchor. Operators considering a similar program can look at pairing a cause with their local market and choosing a mechanic, flat donation or per-wash, that fits their site format and labor model. The summer water drive shows the same chain layering multiple causes across the calendar rather than relying on a single annual event.
