Self-service car wash operators will soon be able to issue promotional and loyalty rewards straight to a customer's smartphone, following CryptoPay's integration of MagTek's Qwantum Service into its payment hardware. The new feature, called Crypto Codes, lets operators generate and deliver one-time-use QR codes digitally rather than handing out physical disposable cards.
The integration works through CryptoPay's CryptoTap Plus reader, which uses the MagTek DynaProx device, according to reporting from Car Wash Business Center. A customer presents the code at the reader, and the unit's built-in barcode scanner reads it to apply the promotion or free wash.
How Crypto Codes work
Many self-serve operators already rely on one-time-use cards to reward repeat customers or to compensate a driver when a bay malfunctions. The physical cards must be ordered, shipped, and stored, which adds cost and lead time to running a promotion. Crypto Codes aim to remove that overhead by letting operators send the same benefit as a scannable code to a customer's phone.
Operators manage the codes from the MyCryptoPay user portal, where they can add, manage, and issue them directly. Because there is nothing physical to provision, the company says the cost of running a promotion drops and operators can respond to customers faster.
The DynaProx reader that scans the codes is built with a high-quality camera and is rated to IK08 and IP66 standards for impact and water resistance, a relevant detail for outdoor self-serve bays that face weather and heavy use.
Dave Richards, vice president of CryptoPay, said delivering Crypto Codes through the Qwantum Service "just made sense" as a simpler way to serve customers. Rod Vesling, senior vice president of Magensa, said the deployment brings instant token delivery to the CryptoTap Plus network.
Adoption picture
CryptoPay reports that physical one-time-use cards are currently used by about 25 percent of its operators as a promotional and loyalty channel. The company expects instant digital delivery to accelerate adoption and widen the marketing reach of that tool across its network, since the barrier of ordering and stocking cards is removed.
CryptoPay, founded in 2001, supplies unattended payment systems for self-service wash environments. MagTek, founded in 1972, manufactures secure card readers and token generators that connect to its Magensa gateway for transaction security.
Why it matters for operators
For self-serve operators, promotions and service recovery are often the main levers for keeping customers coming back, but physical card programs carry friction: inventory, shipping delays, and the risk of running out when you need to make a customer whole after a bay failure. A digital code that can be issued on demand from a portal shortens that response time and cuts the per-promotion cost.
The feature is most relevant to operators already running CryptoPay hardware, specifically CryptoTap Plus with the DynaProx reader. If you are on that platform, the upgrade could let you shift loyalty and goodwill campaigns from cards to codes without new equipment. Operators on other systems should watch whether competing payment vendors follow with similar mobile delivery, since digital token issuance is becoming a standard expectation.
Before leaning fully on digital codes, operators should confirm their customer base is comfortable scanning phone-based QR codes at the bay and keep a fallback for drivers without smartphones.
