EverWash rolls out QR tool to convert unattended-wash retail traffic into members

EverWash has introduced a QR-code-based signup tool aimed at unattended and in-bay automatic car washes that lack onsite staff to sell memberships. Called Quick Scan, the technology is designed to move retail customers into recurring membership plans during a single visit, according to an announcement from the International Carwash Association.

The core problem the company is targeting is straightforward: at a site with no employee present, there is often no one to explain a membership program or walk a customer through joining. Quick Scan places that opportunity into signage and pay stations along the customer journey instead.

How Quick Scan works

The system relies on a single QR code unique to each wash location. When a customer scans it with a phone camera, the code recognizes who is scanning and routes them accordingly. A retail customer is taken directly to the signup experience for that specific wash, with no app download and no need to search for the location. Customers pick a plan, enter a phone number and billing details, and can complete enrollment in less than 60 seconds. The membership becomes active immediately, so a new member can use it to run their first wash on the same visit.

Existing members see no change. They scan the same code from inside the EverWash app and activate a wash as they do now. The company describes it as one code producing two experiences.

After signing up, new members receive a text prompting them to download the app for future visits, where they can activate washes and access the broader membership program going forward.

EverWash says it is producing, shipping, and covering the cost of the Quick Scan decals for participating wash partners. Operators can place the codes on promotional signage throughout the site, creating multiple chances for a customer to join before reaching the pay station. Scott Caplan, the company's CEO and founder, said the tool gives operators a way to "turn more of their existing retail traffic into recurring membership revenue."

EverWash, founded in 2016 and based in Philadelphia, says it serves more than 1,000 locations nationwide with membership technology and support services.

Why it matters for operators

Unattended and in-bay automatic formats have grown in part because they cut labor costs, but that same lack of onsite staff removes the human sales pitch that drives membership conversion at attended tunnels. Any friction in the signup process, from app store downloads to hunting for the right location, gives a hurried retail customer a reason to skip enrolling. A tool that compresses signup to under a minute directly addresses that gap.

For operators weighing this, the practical questions are conversion lift and cost. The vendor is covering decal production and shipping, which lowers the barrier to testing it. The bigger operational consideration is placement: because the codes can go on multiple signs across the customer path, operators have room to experiment with where the offer appears and measure which touchpoints drive the most signups.

Operators should also weigh how the immediate first-wash activation affects throughput and revenue capture at the pay station, and confirm that the two-experience model does not confuse existing members. As with any membership platform, the value depends on retention after that first wash, not just the speed of the initial signup.
