Hoffman Car Wash will give away free washes in exchange for food donations across its Upstate New York and Southern Vermont locations on Saturday, October 24, and Sunday, October 25. Customers who bring at least one nonperishable food item to any Hoffman Exterior or Full Service site during the two-day window receive a free Ultimate Car Wash.
The event marks the 15th consecutive year of the company's Fall Food Drive, according to reporting from the International Carwash Association. It is the operator's second food drive of 2026, following a Spring Food Drive earlier in the year that collected an estimated 36,000 meals.
How the drive works
The campaign is built around a direct trade: a single donated item for a top-tier wash. Suggested donations include canned meat or fish, canned soups and entrees, canned fruit, pasta sauce, cereal, 100 percent fruit juice, and peanut butter and jelly, along with other shelf stable goods.
Donations stay local. Hoffman is partnering with 22 food pantries and community organizations this fall, and items collected at each location are distributed through that site's nearby partner. Participating groups span communities including Albany, Amsterdam, Bennington, Binghamton, Cohoes, Clifton Park, Glens Falls, Hudson, Kingston, Latham, Rome, Saratoga, Troy, Utica, and more.
The drive is part of Hoffman's "Practice Kindness" initiative, which the company frames as spreading goodwill in the areas it serves. Hoffman also maintains long-standing relationships with organizations such as Interfaith Partnership for the Homeless, Breakthrough T1D, the Saratoga Senior Center, Ronald McDonald House, and Kelly's Angels, and it supports nonprofits and youth groups through its Helping Hands Fundraising program.
Why it matters for operators
Hoffman's food drive is a repeatable model worth studying for any operator looking to combine community goodwill with foot traffic. The structure is simple and low friction: one item for one premium wash. That removes any pricing calculation for the customer and encourages participation from people who might not otherwise visit.
The timing matters too. A two-day weekend event concentrates demand and creates urgency, while giving away the Ultimate wash exposes customers to the highest tier of service they might later pay for. For a chain, running the promotion across every location at once amplifies the marketing message and the volume of donations collected.
Keeping donations local is a smart trust signal. By routing each site's collections to a nearby pantry, Hoffman connects the benefit directly to the community around each wash rather than to a distant national cause. That local tie tends to resonate more strongly with neighborhood customers and gives each site a reason to promote the drive to its own base.
The longevity of the program, now in its 15th year with two drives annually, shows the value of consistency. A recurring event becomes something customers anticipate and plan around, building a reputation that pays off well beyond any single weekend. Operators considering a charitable promotion can look to this format as a template: pick a clear cause, make participation effortless, offer a genuine wash as the incentive, and keep the impact visible in the local community.
