Mister Car Wash is capping a major expansion in Lubbock, Texas, with a week of free washes and grand opening events running September 30 through October 4. According to reporting from the International Carwash Association, the celebration follows the opening of the final store in the buildout, bringing the company to nine locations serving the city.

The growth came largely through acquisition. Mister recently added five former Whistle Express sites that had been operating under the Take 5 brand, a move the company says makes it the largest car wash network in the Lubbock market.

A citywide unification play

The expansion consolidates several formerly separate operations under a single brand. On Saturday, October 3, company leaders and local teams will travel across Lubbock to hold ribbon-cutting ceremonies at all nine locations in a rolling tour meant to symbolize the unification of the market under one Mister Car Wash banner.

The promotional strategy centers on customer appreciation. Mister is offering free Titanium washes, its premium wash package, at every location during the celebration week. That approach gives newly acquired sites a chance to introduce the Mister brand and its wash quality to drivers who previously visited under the Take 5 name, while also drawing existing customers back to converted locations.

Beyond the free washes, the company is tying the launch to community outreach. School fundraising initiatives will benefit Cooper High School, Frenship High School, and students across Lubbock Independent School District. The company framed the events as part of a broader investment in the city and its long-term commitment to the community it serves.

Absorbing acquired sites

The Lubbock effort illustrates how large operators are handling the operational challenge of rebranding acquired locations. Converting five former Take 5 sites and integrating them with existing Mister stores requires aligning equipment, chemistry, membership systems, and staff training so that a customer gets a consistent experience regardless of which of the nine locations they visit.

Staging the ribbon cuttings on a single day across all locations, rather than opening each quietly, concentrates attention and signals to the local market that the ownership change is complete. It also gives the company a clear moment to communicate its unified brand identity to a city where multiple wash names recently competed.

Why it matters for operators

Acquisitions remain a primary growth lever in the car wash industry, and how an operator handles the transition period shapes whether it retains the acquired sites' customer base. When a familiar local brand disappears overnight, some customers hesitate. A free wash week directly addresses that risk by removing the cost barrier to trying the new brand and letting wash quality do the selling.

Smaller operators watching a large chain consolidate a mid-size market like Lubbock should note the competitive pressure. Becoming the largest network in a market gives a chain scale advantages in marketing, membership pricing, and site density that independents cannot easily match. Pairing the expansion with school fundraising and highly visible local events is a deliberate effort to build community goodwill that offsets the perception of an out-of-town operator moving in. For any operator planning to buy and rebrand sites, the lesson is that the grand reopening deserves as much planning as the acquisition itself.
