MOJO Family of Brands, the operator behind more than 150 car washes across 20 regional brands, has named Matt White as its chief financial officer. According to reporting from Car Wash Business Center, White brings more than 27 years of finance and operations leadership across several multi-unit industries.

In the new role, White will be responsible for MOJO's financial planning, reporting, cash management, and strategic initiatives. The company framed the hire as a response to its growth pace and its push to assemble a leadership team capable of supporting a larger operation.

A finance background built across multi-unit sectors

White's career spans dental services, transportation, restaurant, and retail businesses. Before joining MOJO, he was CFO of Great Expressions Dental Centers and Absolute Dental Group, and he held division CFO and interim division COO roles at National Express. Earlier, he worked in finance leadership positions at Domino's, Lands' End, Amway, and Best Buy, and he started his career at Ford Motor Company. He holds an MBA from the University of Virginia's Darden School of Business.

MOJO highlighted White's experience working with operators, executive teams, boards, lenders, and private equity sponsors. His past work has included improving financial visibility across multiple locations, managing costs, supporting acquisitions and major transactions, and building processes to help businesses grow. The company also noted his track record of coaching team members and developing finance organizations.

CEO Terry Emerson said White joins at a key moment for the company. "Matt is joining MOJO at a pivotal time in our company's history," Emerson said, adding that White's expertise would help accelerate growth and position the company for long-term success. White said he was excited about the opportunity to partner with the company's operators and teammates.

Why it matters for operators

For multi-site operators, the appointment is a reminder that growth past a certain scale changes the nature of the finance function. A chain approaching 200 sites across 20 brands needs consolidated reporting, disciplined cash management, and the ability to evaluate acquisitions quickly. Those are capabilities that smaller operators often run informally but that become critical as location counts climb.

White's resume also signals the kind of experience the car wash industry is now competing for. His background is not in car washing but in other multi-unit, high-transaction businesses where comparable store performance, labor costs, and site-level visibility drive the numbers. Those disciplines transfer directly to a wash network, and the hire reflects how larger operators are recruiting finance talent from outside the industry to professionalize their back offices.

His mention of private equity sponsors is worth noting. As consolidation continues across the sector, finance leaders who can work with lenders and investors, support transactions, and stand up repeatable reporting processes are in demand. Operators weighing their own growth, whether through new builds, acquisitions, or rebrands like MOJO's recent Coastal Car Wash expansion in Tampa Bay, should consider whether their financial systems can keep pace.

The practical takeaway for independents is less about the specific hire and more about the trend it represents. As regional brands roll up into larger families, the operators competing for sites and capital are building formal finance leadership. Even smaller washes can borrow from that playbook by investing early in location-level financial visibility and consistent reporting before growth outpaces their systems.
