A new customer care and membership retention platform aimed at unlimited wash clubs has reached commercial launch. TetherCX, founded by longtime car wash operator Claire Cunningham and her husband Jason Cunningham, says it was built and tested inside their own working locations before going to market, according to reporting from the International Carwash Association.
The Kansas City, Kansas company is targeting a familiar operator pain point. Unlimited memberships now drive a large share of revenue for many washes, but member service is often scattered across site voicemail, texts from a marketing vendor, a shared email inbox and separate cancellation forms. When a card declines or a member asks to cancel, the result frequently depends on who sees the message and when.
What the platform does
TetherCX pulls member communication across five channels, phone calls, text messages, email, webchat and web forms, into a single unified inbox. An AI voice agent answers member calls at any hour using each wash's own knowledge base and hands off to staff with a clear message when a person is needed.
The platform also layers in workflows tied to the moments members are most likely to leave. Payment recovery follows up on declined cards before a membership lapses. Cancellation workflows give members a clear path to cancel while surfacing whatever retention offers the operator has chosen, and a Recapture program reaches out to members who have already left.
Beyond the inbox, TetherCX includes member journey messaging timed around two common drop-off points, before a member's first renewal and around month two. It adds NPS surveys, review requests, referrals and a coupon and gift card feature the company calls Treats.
The company positions the product as a care layer rather than a marketing tool. It is designed to work alongside an operator's existing point-of-sale and marketing providers instead of replacing them, and it is described as process-agnostic, so washes do not need to change how they bill members. While car wash operators remain the core market, TetherCX says the platform also serves gyms, studios, salons and oil change shops.
Pricing starts at $179 per location per month. The company is offering 20-minute demos and will exhibit at Carwash Con East, Booth 1100, October 6 to 7 at the Atlantic City Convention Center.
Why it matters for operators
Membership retention is where many washes win or lose profitability, and involuntary churn from failed payments is one of the most recoverable forms of lost revenue. A fragmented service setup means declined cards and cancellation requests can fall through the cracks, so any system that consolidates those touchpoints and automates follow-up addresses a real operational gap.
The operator-founded origin may appeal to owners wary of generic software, but the usual diligence applies. At $179 per location per month, operators should weigh the cost against current churn rates and the revenue a few saved memberships represent. Key questions to raise in a demo include how cleanly the AI voice agent integrates with existing POS and billing, how cancel-save offers are controlled, and whether staff can override automated workflows. Because the platform is pitched as working alongside existing providers rather than replacing them, operators can test it without overhauling their billing stack, which lowers the risk of a trial.
