RipTide Car Wash has added a 22nd location, opening a new site at 4020 W. Wendover Ave. in Greensboro, North Carolina. According to reporting from Auto Laundry News, the opening extends the chain's ongoing growth into a new market.

CEO Chris Gardner framed the move as a bet on the local market, saying the company is committed to a wash experience that is "quick, convenient, and leaves every vehicle looking its best." The company positions its service around speed, quality, and affordable pricing.

Grand opening promotions

To mark the launch, RipTide offered free washes to the Greensboro community through the end of July. The chain paired the free-wash window with complimentary air fresheners, discounts on its unlimited wash club memberships, and additional offers aimed at signing up new members during the promotional period.

The operator also tied the opening to a community gesture, providing complimentary washes to all Greensboro Police Department patrol cars through the end of the year. The offer was framed as a thank-you for local law enforcement.

Why it matters for operators

The RipTide opening is a textbook example of how express chains use grand-opening periods to build a membership base quickly. Free washes get vehicles through the tunnel and into the habit of visiting, while the immediate push toward discounted unlimited plans converts that first-time traffic into recurring monthly revenue. The economics of a new site depend heavily on how fast an operator can grow its recurring membership count, so front-loading promotions during the launch window is a deliberate strategy rather than a giveaway.

The police-car offer is a low-cost community play with outsized visibility. Marked patrol vehicles running clean through a new market act as rolling advertising, and the gesture generates local goodwill that paid media cannot easily replicate. Operators opening in unfamiliar markets can borrow the same tactic with municipal fleets, first responders, or local nonprofits to establish a presence beyond a standard opening-day discount.

For operators tracking competitive expansion, RipTide's steady climb to 22 sites signals continued consolidation and buildout in the Southeast express-wash market. New entrants in a region raise the bar on pricing, membership perks, and speed of service, and existing operators nearby should expect promotional pressure whenever a new site launches with a month of free washes in their trade area.
