Speeders Car Wash, a membership-focused brand owned by Summit Wash Holdings, has signed a multiyear agreement with the University of Connecticut Athletics Department that names the company the official car wash of Huskies athletics.

The deal ties the operator to one of the more visible college sports programs in the Northeast, according to reporting from Professional Carwashing & Detailing. Jason Baumgartner, chief strategy officer for Summit Wash Holdings, framed the arrangement around shared values, saying the two organizations share "a passion for teamwork, service and community."

What the deal includes

The partnership centers on football and basketball, the two highest-profile UConn sports. Fans can expect game day perks and seasonal promotions, while Speeders customers get access to discounts and exclusive rewards tied to the sponsorship.

On the marketing side, the agreement covers a range of brand integrations at home games. Those include in-arena signage, in-arena hustle stats, and in-game promotions, along with co-branded digital and social content. That mix gives Speeders both physical presence inside the venues and a digital channel to reach Huskies fans beyond the arena.

UConn athletic director David Benedict welcomed the brand into what he called the Huskies family, saying the partnership matters to students, fans and administrators, and pointing to the company's role at basketball and football games.

A familiar playbook for wash chains

Collegiate and professional sports sponsorships have become a recurring growth tactic for large car wash operators trying to build brand recognition in new or expanding markets. The approach pairs local sports loyalty with membership acquisition, using game day exposure to funnel fans toward unlimited wash plans and loyalty rewards.

Speeders is not alone in the strategy. Other multi-site operators have tied themselves to major franchises, including El Car Wash, which entered the Detroit market as the official car wash of the Detroit Lions. The UConn deal follows that same logic, using athletics visibility as a customer acquisition tool rather than a one-off ad buy.

Why it matters for operators

Sports sponsorships can deliver concentrated local exposure, but the value depends on how well the perks convert fans into paying members. For operators weighing a similar move, the Speeders arrangement offers a useful template: it bundles signage and in-game visibility with tangible customer incentives such as discounts and rewards, giving fans a reason to act rather than simply see the logo.

The emphasis on membership is the key detail. Recurring revenue plans are the core of modern wash economics, so a sponsorship that drives plan sign-ups is worth more than one that only builds awareness. Operators evaluating regional or collegiate deals should press for measurable conversion mechanisms, promo codes, exclusive offers, and trackable game day activations, rather than relying on brand impressions alone.

Smaller and mid-size operators can adapt the same idea at a lower cost by partnering with local high school programs, minor league teams, or community events. The lesson from the Speeders and UConn deal is that aligning a wash brand with a beloved local team can generate goodwill and traffic, provided the offer gives fans a clear path from the stands to the wash tunnel.
