A new customer care and membership retention platform aimed at subscription-driven car washes has launched, promising to pull scattered member communication into a single system and to intervene at the moments customers are most likely to cancel.

TetherCX was founded by long-time car wash operator Claire Cunningham and her husband Jason Cunningham, according to reporting from Auto Laundry News. The company positions the product as a service layer that works alongside an operator's existing point-of-sale and marketing tools rather than replacing them.

What the platform does

Unlimited wash clubs now account for a large share of revenue at many washes, but member service often lives in fragmented places: site voicemails, texts routed through a marketing vendor, a shared email inbox, and separate cancellation forms. The result, the source notes, is that outcomes on declined cards or cancellation requests can depend on who happens to see a message and when.

TetherCX consolidates five channels, phone calls, text messages, email, webchat, and web forms, into one unified inbox. An AI voice agent answers member calls around the clock using each wash's own knowledge base and hands the conversation to staff with context when a person is needed.

The platform also runs automated workflows for the pain points operators know well. Payment recovery sequences follow up on failed cards before a membership lapses. Cancellation workflows give members a clear path to cancel while surfacing whatever retention offers the operator has set. A recapture program reaches back out to members who have already left, and member journey messaging is timed around two common drop-off points: before a member's first renewal and around month two.

Positioning and pricing

Cunningham frames the tool as a response to shifting customer expectations in the subscription era. "You have to go above and beyond to make sure the customer feels seen and heard," she said, contrasting today's environment with the early membership days when customers were more loyal to a single wash.

The company describes TetherCX as a care layer rather than a marketing product, and says it is processor agnostic, meaning washes do not need to change how they bill members to adopt it. The platform is available now, with plans starting at $179 per location per month.

Why it matters for operators

For washes whose economics depend on recurring revenue, churn is the number that moves profit, and much of it is avoidable. Declined cards and cancellation requests are predictable events, yet many operations still handle them inconsistently because the responsibility is spread across phone, text, email, and forms with no single owner. A platform that centralizes those touchpoints and automates the follow-up addresses a real operational gap.

The pitch worth scrutinizing is the AI voice agent handling after-hours calls. Operators should test how well it draws on their own information and how cleanly it escalates to staff, since a poor automated interaction can accelerate a cancellation rather than prevent it. The processor-agnostic, add-on design lowers the barrier to trying it without disrupting billing.

At $179 per location per month, the math is straightforward: if the tool recovers even a handful of memberships that would otherwise lapse, it can pay for itself. Operators evaluating it should benchmark current involuntary churn and recovery rates first so any improvement can be measured rather than assumed.
