Tidal Wave Auto Spa has opened a new conveyor car wash in Duncan, South Carolina, extending its footprint in the Upstate region. The site, located at 12515 E Wade Hampton Blvd, is the company's 28th location in the state, according to reporting from Auto Laundry News.

Tidal Wave, which the source describes as the nation's fifth-largest conveyor car wash company, timed the opening with a promotional stretch of free washes aimed at introducing the brand to local drivers.

Opening promotion and site features

To launch the Duncan location, Tidal Wave offered 12 days of free premium washes from September 30 through October 11. The giveaway featured the company's top wash package, Graph-X4 plus Super Shammy, at no charge, a tactic designed to let first-time customers sample the highest tier of service before committing to a purchase or membership.

The new site includes a range of self-service and automated amenities. Customers have access to mat cleaning stations, complimentary tire air, a spot-free rinse, an undercarriage wash, foam and wax treatments, and tire shine. The combination reflects the standard express model of pairing a conveyor tunnel with free vacuum and detailing stations.

CEO and founder Scott Blackstock pointed to the Upstate market as a deliberate target for the brand. "Duncan sits in the heart of Upstate South Carolina," Blackstock said, framing the opening as part of the company's continued regional buildout.

A growing Palmetto State presence

With 28 locations now operating in South Carolina, Tidal Wave has established one of the denser single-state networks among national express chains. Clustering sites within a region allows operators to share marketing, management, and supply logistics while building brand recognition that supports membership growth across nearby markets.

The Duncan opening fits a broader pattern of large conveyor operators expanding into secondary and suburban markets rather than concentrating solely in major metros. Upstate South Carolina, anchored by the Greenville and Spartanburg corridor, has seen steady population and commercial growth, making it an attractive area for high-volume express washes.

Why it matters for operators

Tidal Wave's Duncan launch is a clear example of how national chains use grand-opening giveaways to seed membership pipelines. Twelve days of free premium washes puts the most profitable service tier in front of customers at zero cost, lowering the barrier to trial and setting up conversions to unlimited plans once the promotion ends. Independent operators facing new competition from a chain like this should expect aggressive introductory pricing in the surrounding trade area.

The density play also carries a lesson. Reaching 28 sites in a single state gives a chain efficiencies in staffing, chemical purchasing, and local advertising that a standalone wash cannot match. Operators in the Upstate corridor should watch how Tidal Wave prices its membership and what retention offers follow the free period, since those terms often set customer expectations across an entire market.

Finally, the amenity list is a reminder of what customers now treat as table stakes: free vacuums, tire air, spot-free rinse, and undercarriage service are increasingly baseline rather than premium differentiators. Washes competing nearby may need to evaluate whether their own offerings and loyalty programs hold up against a well-capitalized newcomer.
