Wild Water Express has reopened four of its Southern California car washes following months of upgrades, marking the milestone with a staggered run of grand reopening celebrations that gave each location its own day in the spotlight.
The events ran from August 31 through September, opening in Costa Mesa and wrapping up in San Pedro, according to reporting from Auto Laundry News. Guests received complimentary premium washes, and the chain rolled out limited-time pricing on its unlimited wash club to drive membership signups during the promotional window.
What the reopenings included
Each site hosted a full day of activities designed to bring customers back after the construction period. Every guest received a free premium wash throughout the day, and the operator offered special grand reopening rates on the unlimited membership plan. Complimentary treats were available on site, and the first 300 members at each location received a special gift. The chain also ran a contest offering a year of free car washes.
The upgrades spanned all four locations, with improvements made both inside and out. The car wash division operates under Paek Management Group. Ashley Wanemacher, president of that division, framed the spending as a reflection of the company's commitment to the communities it serves. She said the improvements were made with the customer experience in mind, adding that Wild Water Express has been part of the community for years and that the reinvestment shows how seriously the company takes that role.
Why it matters for operators
Renovating an existing site carries a different playbook than opening a greenfield location. Customers already know the brand and may have formed habits around it, so the reopening is a chance to reset expectations and win back traffic that drifted away during closures or slowed service. Wild Water Express treated the relaunch as a marketing event rather than simply flipping the lights back on, and the structure offers a template worth studying.
Giving each of the four sites its own dedicated day, rather than a single chain-wide event, concentrates staff, giveaways, and attention where they can make the strongest local impression. It also lets an operator learn from the first opening and adjust for the ones that follow. The tactics on display are all aimed at converting a one-time visit into recurring revenue: free premium washes lower the barrier to trying the upgraded facility, limited-time membership pricing creates urgency, and gifts for the first several hundred members reward early signups.
The emphasis on the unlimited wash club is the throughline. A capital investment in equipment and site appearance only pays off if it lifts membership counts and retention. Operators planning a remodel should budget not just for construction but for a reopening campaign that turns the disruption into a membership acquisition moment. Pairing physical improvements with a clear conversion offer, and communicating the reinvestment as a commitment to the local community, gives customers a reason to sign up rather than simply pass through.
