ZIPS Car Wash is running a back-to-school campaign that invites customers and community members to nominate standout educators for cash awards toward classroom supplies. According to reporting from Auto Laundry News, the chain is accepting submissions for its Teacher Sweeps promotion now through September 15.
The program will award more than 25 teachers across the country a $500 gift card each. Winners can put the funds toward classroom essentials, learning materials, books, technology, and other resources. The campaign spans the operator's ZIPS, Rocket Express, and Jet Brite locations.
How the promotion works
ZIPS is encouraging parents, students, fellow educators, and community members to recommend a teacher who consistently demonstrates dedication and a commitment to student success. Nominations are collected through a dedicated Teacher Sweeps page on the company's website during the submission window.
Doug Miller, vice president of marketing for ZIPS Car Wash, framed the effort around the personal spending teachers often take on. "Teachers routinely invest their own time, creativity, and personal funds," Miller said. He added that the campaign gives customers a way to spotlight educators whose work makes a lasting difference in their communities. Miller, who said he was raised by a single mother who was a teacher, tied the initiative to recognizing the impact educators have beyond the classroom.
The timing aligns the campaign with the start of a new school year, when families are already thinking about back-to-school preparations and teachers are stocking their rooms.
Why it matters for operators
Seasonal community campaigns like this one are a low-cost way to build local goodwill and generate customer touchpoints outside of a straight sales pitch. A nomination-based promotion does more than write a check: it invites customers to engage directly with the brand by submitting entries, which pulls them onto the operator's website and into its marketing funnel during a high-intent shopping season.
For multi-site operators, tying a single campaign across several banners, as ZIPS does with its Rocket Express and Jet Brite locations, extends reach without multiplying the administrative work. Smaller operators can borrow the same playbook at a fraction of the cost. Even a handful of gift cards to local teachers, promoted through in-bay signage and social channels, can earn local press coverage and position a wash as invested in the community it serves.
Back-to-school season is a natural hook for washes because families are on the road more and vehicles see heavier use. Pairing a community giveaway with a membership push or a limited-time wash offer can convert the goodwill into measurable traffic. The key is keeping the entry process simple and the eligibility clear so the campaign builds trust rather than confusion.
